Ingredients

3 cups plain flour

1 tsp salt

1 cup water

Optional: 1 tbsp butter or oil (non-traditional)

Steps

  1. Combine the flour and salt in a bowl.

  2. Add the water gradually and mix to form a soft dough.

  3. Knead briefly until just combined.

  4. Shape into a round loaf.

  5. Place on a baking tray or in a camp oven.

  6. Bake at 200°C for 30–40 minutes, or cook over coals until firm and cooked through.

  7. Cool slightly before slicing.

Serve warm or cold, plain or with butter. Commonly eaten alongside tea or simple meals.
