Ingredients

250 g plain flour

1½ tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

2 tbsp fat (butter, lard, or oil)

180–200 ml water or milk

Steps

  1. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.

  2. Rub in the fat until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. Add the liquid gradually and mix until a soft dough forms.

  4. Shape into a round and flatten slightly.

  5. Cook in a greased pan over medium heat, covered, for 10–12 minutes per side, or bake at 190°C for 20–25 minutes until cooked through.


Serve warm or at room temperature. Bannock may be eaten plain, with spreads, or alongside soups, stews, and meats.
